At WHW's (What, How & for Whom) Gallery Nova
Press Release:
THE ISRAELI CENTER FOR DIGITAL ART, HOLON, IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE:
THE "MOBILE ARCHIVE" TO BE EXHIBITED IN
OPENING ON 06.02.2008
We are happy to announce the Mobile Archive's third exhibition stop in its world travels, at WHW's Gallery Nova in Zagreb, Croatia. ‘What, How & for Whom’ (WHW) is a non-profit organization for visual culture and a curators’ collective formed in 1999 and based in Zagreb, Croatia. Its members are curators Ivet Ćurlin, Ana Dević, Nataša Ilić and Sabina Sabolović, and designer and publicist Dejan Kršić. Since May 2003 WHW has been directing the program of Gallery Nova – a non-profit, city owned gallery in Zagreb, and have just been announced as the upcoming curators of the 11th Istanbul Biennale.
An archive for video art and digital media has been operating at the Israeli Center for Digital Art, Holon for several years now. The archive contains more than 1,200 titles, including works by Israeli and International artists who have exhibited at the center, and works by artists who have contributed works over the years. As of March 2007, the archive, under the name of the "Mobile Archive," has begun traveling to other art institutes that will also contribute work to the original collection. It will travel for three years in European, Balkan and Middle Eastern countries, before it returns back to Holon.

**In honour of the opening of the Mobile Archive in Zagreb, Galit Eilat, Director of the Israeli Center for Digital Art, is giving a presentation and short screening of video art from the archive shelves. The program includes works by Nurit Sharett, Maayan Amir & Ruti Sela, Yael Bartana, Avi Mograbi, and Yossi Atiya & Itamar Rose.
*This is a unique project which brings Israeli video art to the International forefront and which inspires dialogue and reflection on topics such as identity, nationality, the morality of war, the subjective documentary, and other socio-political issues at the heart of, among others, Israeli society. The "Mobile Archive" is a rare project that runs tandem with contemporary art criticism in its evaluation of the importance of the time-based archive in current art studio and institutional practice. Past exhibition hosts include the Kunstverein in Hamburg, Germany, and WYSPA Institute of Art in Gdansk, Poland.
